Wageningen Research
Wageningen Research (WR) is one of the two legal entities of Wageningen University & Research (WUR). The mission of WUR is ‘to explore the potential of nature to improve the quality of life’. A staff of over 6,500 and 12,000 students from more than a hundred countries work in the domain of three related core areas: (a) food and food production, (b) living environment, and (c) health, lifestyle and livelihood.
The strength of WUR lies in the combined efforts of natural and social sciences, which fosters a high-level scientific output, as well as a quick translation to practice. WR has been very successful in targeting the agri-food sector, promoting sustainability agendas and circular agriculture by its participation in H2020 projects such as BIO-STEP, BioEcoSIM, FIT4FOOD2030 and BIOVOICES, and by its portfolio of leadership in R&D and accelerator projects aiming for digitalisation of agriculture to foster a more sustainable food production such as IOF2020, Smart AgriHubs and AgROBOfood. As initiators and leaders of these large-scale innovation projects, WR has established a strong ecosystem with partners across the EU working on innovations to support agriculture, biodiversity, and sustainability.
